Pearl of Africa Hotel is Uganda’s largest and tallest Hotel, and was officially launched by the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the 1st October 2017.
This five-star Hotel is nestled on Nakasero Hill in Kampala, Capital and largest City in the Pearl of Africa-Uganda. Construction of this exceptional Hotel started in 2006 and 11 years down the road (June 2017) it was completed and was officially opened in October. It is a 24-storey building sitting on 14 acres/5.7 hectares of land previously occupied by Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation (UBC) Television Stations and stands at up to 90 meters (300 feet) in terms of height. The fact that it is located on a place of high elevation (1240 meters/4070 feet) above sea level, guests are rewarded with the breathtaking views of the different places of the City.
The Hotel is owned by Aya Investments Limited and managed by Sovereign Hotels Group, a South African based Hotel management Company. The initial plan was to open this facility earlier but due to cash shortages and a number of administrative challenges, it instead took a longer time to complete with numerous missed deadlines and several postponements of the scheduled opening date.
It is said that the entire project costed up to $300 million (approximately UShs 1.75 trillion). Forget about the different three and four star hotels in Kampala camouflaging as five-star hotels because Pearl of Africa is a one of a kind and the real deal. The services and furniture will be enough to show that it is worth being called a 5-star facility. Interestingly with the opening of this exceptional accommodation facility, over 12000 jobs (2000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs) are expected to be created for Ugandans.
There are presently over 296 rooms ranging from Presidential suites, junior, diplomatic, double and single rooms. Another exciting thing about this exceptional Hotel is that it features 5 restaurants besides having 42 suites.
The grand opening of this five star Hotel was graced by s number of dignitaries who were treated to cocktails on arrival, cake cutting and finally grand tour of the 24-sorey building while targeting several amenities of the Hotel, which was then followed by a banquet where several invited dignitaries including the President addressed the invited Guests. Some of the facilities to enjoy at Pearl of Africa Hotel include dining options, two bars, the guestrooms, two squash courts, two board rooms, a 740-square meter ballroom, a state of art spa and wellness center, two basketball courts, nine meeting rooms, six swimming pools, two tennis courts as well as other amenities of the Hotel.
Notably, the manager of the Hotel, Mr. Martin Carberry pointed that the rates are very pocket friendly and presently a special discount is being offered at $195 per person until the end of the year to allow different people to experience the comfort of the new Hotel. Interestingly, it was built to benefit mainly the Ugandan community through employment opportunities, funding health centers and education center among other things being planned.
President Museveni in his speech advised the Investors to pay no attention to what they read in newspapers, hear or watch because Uganda is a secure and peaceful country for Investment and thanked the Aya brother for their great work in the Hospitality industry.
In conclusion, Pearl of Africa is currently the tallest and biggest Hotel in Uganda with over 296 rooms including 42 suites. Besides the rooms there are other facilities that include tennis courts, swimming pools, squash courts, restaurants, bars as well as a spa and wellness center among others. A night spent at this Hotel is like being in Paradise.
